Background
Inadequate flood management caused serious troubles in the past, among others the following points can be called critically:
- Lacking hazard information,
- isolated tacking of problems in regions and
- no interdisciplinary communication.
Experience made clear that the establishment of
- early warning-,
- precautionary measures- and
- decision support systems,
being developed and implemented within the SAFER Project, can successfully eradicate those trouble. This is crucial to SAFER as it forms a basic project objective: to reduce threat on humans and to minimize flood damage.
The close transnational co-operation within SAFER allows to develop efficient and transferable approaches. In doing so, there is also strong emphasis on regional and local involvement.
